GoDaddy Officially Has Name Removed From Judiciary's List Of SOPA Supporters
from the keep-editing dept
There was some concern that GoDaddy had only said they were pulling their support for SOPA, but hadn't actually done so. However, the company is now pointing out that it officially asked to be removed from the Judiciary Committee's list of SOPA supporters and that's now been done. I will note, however, that despite the claims that it is no longer supporting SOPA, the Graphic Artists Guild is still listed. Add to this the Judiciary Committee having to scrub the list of a bunch of law firms who never agreed to support the bill, as well as companies like Gibson Guitar, and it seems that the Judiciary Committee is going to be kept busy whittling down this list.
Of course, it's unclear why the Judiciary Committee only puts up a list of (rapidly shrinking) supporters. If it wanted to present the various opinions on the bill, shouldn't it actually show the large and growing list of SOPA opponents?

List of Companies
Many of the "Companies" on this list are in fact subsidiaries of larger "big content" companies like Viacom.
Most egregious are things like "Universal Music" and "Universal Music Publishing Group, or "Warner Music Group" and "Warner Music Nashville" towards the bottom as though they weren't part of the same organization, but more subtle are items like "CMT" being part of Viacom, or "MCA Records" being part of Universal.
How long is this list really if we strip out this kind of redundancy? If corporations are people does this constitute "cloning" for the purposes of legislation?

Lets see the list
Mike, I'm sure you have the list, why not just post it up here?
You are trying to present the various opinions on the bill correct?

This makes it pretty easy since the companies listed on Wikipedia click through and have their corporate parents listed.
I was planning on just doing a bulleted list, possibly a collapsible one (collapsed by default) since this is the web after all.

Re: Re: Lets see the list
I thought you were responding to my comment about how the list of "supporters" is padded due to companies and their subsidiaries being listed as individual supporters.
I see what you meant now after viewing on the site.

Or...they'll just ignore the removal requests and continue to cite the original list as if it were still accurate. Much like they continue to use debunked study results.

Re: Re:
Now if I could integrate Mongoose with bitname or something, then it would be wonderful.
Bitname + Bittorrent + Mongoose + Herbivore would be cool but I'm afraid that is a bit into the future.

Pain
The big question now is if domain transfers away from them will now cease or if people want GoDaddy to feel the pain so they never dare do it again?
I favour the pain option myself.

Yeah, if you didn't just get chills down your spine you are probably a corporation.
