DailyDirt: We Think Recommending Links Makes The Internet Better
from the urls-we-dig-up dept
Back in the early days of the internet, people would recommend links on their homepages and build rudimentary indexes of cool links. It was cool, and it made it fun to surf the web. A couple decades later, we have a few more ways to do that... using tweets, status updates, bookmark services, etc -- but one of our favorite ways to find fascinating URLs is StumbleUpon. And since lots of folks who find their way here also seem to like StumbleUpon, we've teamed up with them to recommend even more interesting links in our DailyDirt posts. So, in addition to the regular quick links we usually point out here, we're adding a link for you to Stumble Upon other interesting sites. Following that link will lead you to a variety of cool websites, and the click will also help to promote Techdirt among StumbleUpon's community. So, without further ado, here are some interesting tech developments.
By the way, StumbleUpon can recommend some good Techdirt articles, too.
- Spintronics might store information more efficiently in the quantum states of atoms. Hard drive manufacturers won't have much to worry about for a long, long time, though. [url]
- Memristor technology could offer 20 gigabytes per square centimeter by 2013. A thousand songs in your pocket will seem so quaint pretty soon. [url]
- Make computers 20x faster with 1,000 cores on a chip. Programming for a gazillion cores is probably going to require some new skillz.... [url]

Re:
That "damn bar" will not appear on our site unless you actually use StumbleUpon, and then StumbleUpon frames our site with its bar.
In other words, if you got to Techdirt by typing techdirt.com into your browser, you'll never see the SU bar. But if you "stumble" onto a Techdirt page -- you'll get it.
Thanks for the feedback!
