RIAA: We Support Net Neutrality, Just As Long As It Includes The Ability For ISPs To Block File Sharing

Because I know how much you've all been wanting to know what a bunch of dying record labels and their chief lobbyist thinks about net neutrality, the RIAA's president Cary Sherman put out a statement saying that they're happy with the new rules because the FCC's Julius Genachowski has said it's okay for ISPs to ignore all those rules as long as they're going after "illegal conduct" online -- which of course the RIAA assumes must mean file sharing.

How is it possible to determine what is "illegal" content being downloaded without invading peoples privacy and monitoring everything?

Chris, we've been over this before. File sharing does NOT support terrorism. That is a ridiculous claim, stupid on a level that is out of control.

oh it gets better. Who decides what is "illegal" or not? Oh right, back to DMCA claim equivalents. "filesharing could be illegal, it must be blocked". "web browsing could be illegal, it could be blocked".
I also don't get that police approval/requirement thing.

the oligarchy would never allow any competition to its monopoly on media transmission, however; a community in one of the carolinas, being fed up w/ high internet and cable prices, started a nonprofit to provide those services as well as VOIP phone to thieir community. they were successful in lowering the costs of these services to their community. i wonder what ever became of that experiment. homeland security and the NSA would view this as the thorn from hell in their sides. if your are interested in helping me research this subject, please e-mail me w/ subject-mediastruggle.
P.S keep in mind all electronic communications are monitered for key words.

Encrypted P2P VPN
It's only a matter of time before encrypted P2P VPN links become commonplace in the consumer market, just as they are already in the business world. When that happens, the ISPs will no longer be able to see what their data pipes are being used for.

Hmm, then it wouldn't be neutral would it and if they can block activity that may or may not be illegal, what else can they block without proof? Can they block "government defined" inappropriate speech, ideas or writing they don't like. Tyrants have no qualms manipulating labels and language to cover it's abhorrent and repressive behavior.

This is nothing more than big government's attempt to put their hands in the cookie jar of a free market internet. Look for the process of any future internet technologies bog down due to oversized government intrusion. More government = less freedom.

Net Neutrality has as little to do with neutrality as social/environmental justice have to do with justice. It's just the way liberals use antonyms to describe all their plans. They want to silence opposition, they try to pass laws with names like fairness doctrine, net neutrality, hate crimes bill, diversity rules.

If you support the RIAA, you're a terrorist. You force people to pay for illegal content, and share 'their' files. This is regardless of what it actually is you download. I actually received a nastygram for obtaining NIN's The Slip from Mininova.
