The Real Loser In Amp'd's Bankruptcy: Mobile Porn

from the leap-of-logic dept

As the dust continues to settle around virtual operator Amp'd, which recently filed for bankruptcy, the New York Times has a rather bizarre article focusing on some of the collateral damage. Namely, it says that the growth of mobile porn will be stunted by the filing, since apparently Amp'd was the closest of any US carrier to selling porn, as it "let subscribers download pictures of fully clothed pornography stars and models." US operators have thus far resisted selling adult content, both because they don't have systems in place to restrict minors' access to the content (also known as the porn license) and because they fear the backlash of being seen as porn purveyors. Of course, plenty of third-party mobile porn shops exist outside carriers' content decks, but apparently that's not good enough to assuage the NYT's fears for this nascent industry.

    Mobile. Porn. lmao. Riiight.

"ooh, look! he's putting his pixel in her...!"

Let's check back in a few years. The quality and resolution of today's display is just too damn sad. And there just isn't enough storage space.

I know a lot of phones that have the ability for mini SD cards and stuff like that. Which gives them the ability to hold like 4gb of pictures. I think thats plenty. And some phones to have pretty nice resolution.

Mobile porn has been around since 2004 with the Pocket PC becoming beefy enough to handle small Divx clips.

Throw in a 2 GB card and you can enjoy hours of hardcore action in your hand. A girl at my work has a Dell PPC with a fair share of the X materials...

oh please. there's been mobile porn since the monochrome screen days. oh sure it was basically the same picture quality as ascii porn, but if you squinted hard enough the little dots almost looked obscene. or sexy or whatever.

I know of a version that takes very little storage space and uses almost no power. It also boasts a much higher rez factor. It used to be popular in the 50's and 60's. It was called paper.

    Wireless porn is still alive

    Rowdy, Jun 20th, 2007 @ 3:36pm

With or without wireless carriers mobile porn still exists. Last month MidniteMonkey.com launched their erotic mobile TV service. This month their private label program was launched at the Cybernet Expo. MidniteMonkey is now working with adult content producers to launch their own mobile adult content services. Placement on the carrier’s wireless portals is great, but until the carrier supported age verification systems are in place, providers such as MidniteMonkey will deliver the goods!

Even though Amp'd has sunk like the Titanic, mobile porn is still afloat. Places like www.TomShark.com still provide mobile porn.
