Fox Interactive Decides It's Time To Make Money

from the one-last-piece-of-the-puzzle dept

For a lot of startups these days, it doesn't really matter that they don't have a real business model, because the game is all about selling out to a large buyer. But once the company becomes a unit of a larger corporation, top brass may actually want to see some results. So if you're FOX, and you want to start monetizing the various purchases you've made, you hire a -- wait for it -- Chief Revenue Officer. The position is what it sounds like, as the CRO is responsible for, well, bringing in revenue. Apparently, such positions were created after the .com bust, once companies realized they couldn't pay the rent in eyeballs or pageviews. The good news is that companies aren't waiting for things to collapse before they get the idea to start trying to make money.

  1. CRO?

Is this another way of saying "Quick, make back the half billion spent on myspace!" At least all of these aquisitions and busts make for a learning experiences that lead to a better method of dot com's actually becoming a business.

  2. Being CRO

    by DittoBox - May 24th, 2006 @ 12:39pm

    Isn't being CRO the...oh I don't know...the /responsibility/ of everyone else in the company?

Who says we should privatize any government? Corporations are just as bad bureaucratically and politically as the US government.

At least with governments, people think they have 'control' over who is in charge. Putting a corporation in it's place is like admitting there is something wiring with the current system - something that will never happen.

    ne' mind!

    :-D
