Tech Companies Finally Realize That Women Buy A Lot Of Gadgets

from the took-'em-long-enough dept

Some of us have been pointing this out for years, but technology and gadgets aren't just for guys. Women dig gadgets too. In fact, women now account for (hey, look at that!) 50% of technology purchases these days, and it appears that various technology companies have finally realized this and are starting to do things like advertise in women-targeted media. What's scary is that it took these tech companies so long to realize that technology wasn't just for guys, and that plenty of women are interested in technology and have plenty of purchasing power.

My wife is more into gadgets then I am. My gadgets are like cars or something.

She comes home almost everyday talking about some new phone or whatever.

The comment about women having the credit cards is funny but that isn't it.

Women in today's work place have heard their entire life how men make more money doing then same job as us (no I don't want to start this debate, it is just a statement). So especially in the work place even if we don't work in the technology field, we have to appear "up" on the latest thing. Showing a level of knowledge in the new gizmos and gadgets helps.

(And now for a bit of humor) Plus women always have been better shoppers; men work harder…we work smarter.

this is quite funny really, because I have just ordered goods from www.maplin.co.uk a uk geek site, and the gender pulldown on the order form offered only 'm'!

But I still doubt they'll get it right for a long time. I'm a business owner, mom and wife and oh yes - a gadget/tech lover. Over the last year I've researched and purchased practically all tech related stuff in my household & business. Yet when I go to the store, the guys there talk to me like I'm stupid. It's not only manufacturers who need to wise up - retailers too. No wonder I prefer online shopping - at least no one talks down to me.

Women are Just as Big of NERDS!!1

Hi Mike. Although people assume generally that women know squat about techy gadgets, those few people I guess are still living in the neanderthal age. Women these days are just as big nerds, if not bigger than men about new games, computers, mp3 players, phones, sex toys ;P I know it because I've seen it myself!
