Supporters Of Data Privacy Thrilled That The Feds Are Doing Nothing

from the don't-mess-it-up dept

It's quite a statement on the competence of our federal government's legislative branch when even consumer advocates are positively thrilled that the feds won't be moving forward on consumer privacy laws to deal with companies that leak data. They realize that any such laws would only do more to screw things up, by leaving all sorts of loopholes from politicians who have campaign donors to support. For once, though, it looks like Congress may have seen a tempting nail and not had enough power to hammer it down. Still, given historical trends, don't be surprised if this issue pops back up next year when there's another series of high profile data leaks during slow news periods.
