Recording Industry Asking Too Much From Microsoft
from the so-much-for-that-plan dept
That the recording industry is becoming even more greedy these days isn’t anything new. However, it seems like some are finally pushing back a little. Following Steve Jobs’ resistance to raising prices on iTunes songs, it appears the recording industry then looked to Microsoft as a company who would abide. No such luck apparently. Microsoft was looking to put together a subscription music service but has called off negotiations after the record labels wouldn’t budge on price. They wanted $6 to $8 per subscriber per month, which would make it pretty difficult for anyone to compete with Yahoo’s music subscription service that charges less than those rates to consumers directly. Of course, that should make people wonder if Yahoo is actually losing money on each music subscriber they get.
