How Long Until Someone Blames Google For Making Confidential Info Available?

from the a-matter-of-time... dept

There have been plenty of stories about how confidential info was found via Google, and with more articles talking about how hackers are using Google to find information or gain access to places they shouldn't have access to, it seems like only a matter of time before someone blames Google for allowing this info to get out there. Obviously, that's a ridiculous idea -- but the idea of blaming those who "found" the security hole is nothing new. When you look back at that recent case of student information exposed, the guy seemed to blame Google by saying that the information was nearly impossible to find -- unless you had Google. So, while it hasn't happened yet, it seems like only a matter of time until we hear a lawsuit about someone who improperly secured their own info suing Google for finding it.

Heck, just do a Google search on the phrase "do not release" with filetype PDF and you'll get interesting stuff.

I don't understand how people can put things on a non-password protected portion of their website and be upset when it is found by a spider. If you don't want people to see it, it is very very very easy to password protect it (if it should even be on the web in the first place).
