Another Odd Microsoft Patent, And I Ain't 'Lion'

from the patents-galore dept

theodp writes "Suppose your name is Adam. But you want your name displayed as 'Juan' on your friend's cell phone. Together with an image of a lion. Well, my friend, you'd best chase another dream, at least if Microsoft's just-published patent application for Dynamic photo caller identification - which actually spells out this scenario - is approved."

Now when I call a woman for a blind date I can push a picture of Brad Pitt and call myself Don Juan...

Or I can screw with people and call some guy's girlfriend but push his name and picture over this system and act like I'm all drunk/wasted and break up with her...

    woohoo! 3 cheers for Microsoft!

An Eliza-like program that generates random ideas for patents based on currently fashionable trends in technology and society. After review (human or automatic), a selection of these ideas will be submitted to the USPTO along with the filing fee.

    prior art

Most PBX systems (Asterisk included) include a privacy call screening system, where you are asked to record a message describing who you are and what your call is about if your caller ID is not recognized. Wouldn't that qualify as prior art? You are in fact communicating identifying information in the form of speech.
