How Does Cable TV Compete With The Internet? By Pretending To Be The Internet

from the ah,-those-services... dept

Remember how Comcast was just saying that they were going to focus on services and everyone wonder what kind of services they could be talking about? It sounds like they're trying to figure out ways to make television more like the internet by offering services like video dating over television. This seems like a strange move. There are already a ton of dating sites online. What advantage does it really add to have one over the TV? In some sense, this is like the various attempts to move broadcast TV to the internet, but in reverse. The internet is good for interactivity. The TV is good at broadcast. Why are they trying to bring one to the other and pretend that the other doesn't exist (and is already better at offering whatever it is they're offering)?

Interactive TV is a huge success in UK. People can buy stuff for which an ad is being broadcast. Infact people were able to donate to Tsunami Relief (first of its kind in the world) using interactive tv.

I think thats where the future is - letting people interact with the television.
