US Knocking Iranian Websites Offline -- For Whose Benefit?
from the let's-think-about-this-a-second... dept
It's not entirely clear what's going on here, but it looks like the US government is trying to enforce some rules about not doing business with countries they list on that whole "list o' evil" or whatever it's called these days. While it's more well known news sites that get taken offline, it looks like plenty of others are impacted as various US hosting companies are turning off Iranian websites, even if they're telling stories from inside the country of those opposed to the existing regime there. Again, the laws of unintended consequences may be showing up. The bans, put in place to hurt the existing government, are instead making it more difficult for protesting voices to be heard.
