Alltel Buys Western Wireless: Welcome To Tier Two Convergence

As was rumored last week, it appears that Alltel has completed a deal to buy Western Wireless for about $6.2 billion. So, just as the big national wireless operators all start merging together, it looks like the regionals have realized they need to get big as well, filling in that competitive vacuum that some might have been worried about.
