E-Shopping All Night Long

from the just-can't-stop dept

Besides the benefits of not having to leave your home, one of the benefits people find to shopping online is that they can shop all night long, while the regular shops are closed. In fact, approximately 5% of all e-commerce is done between 1am and 8am where the buyer resides. This certainly fits with the Woot model, where you have to buy late at night to get in on any of the better deals. It's not entirely clear what the reasoning is. Some people just prefer to shop late, while others use it as a means of procrastinating from that whole "going to bed" process. What will be interesting is whether or not online stores start doing more time-based promotions to take advantage of certain segments of their buyers. It's not hard to predict an "up all night" type of sale targeting those who are online while most people are sleeping soundly.
