Nanotechnololgy And Promises Of Flying Cars

The International Congress of Nanotechnology is running this week in San Francisco, which is giving any possible technology (that has anything to do with being small) company a chance to turn science fiction into science, um, public relations. While there's certainly some valid science behind nanotechnology, promoting the research of brain implants in rats that could be used to make rats smarter or potentially augment human memory is stepping into the deep end. Fortunately, there is at least one realistic scientist at the conference who defined nanotechnology, not in terms of its scale, but as "the ability to continue to obtain funding for what you claim is of nano importance." I'm still waiting on the flying car, and considering the ephemeral nature of digital memory, I'll wait a bit longer for those brain implants.
