Software Patents Back Up For Discussion In Europe
from the hopefully-with-less-distortion dept
Earlier this year there was a big discussion after the EU started to move forward with their plan to allow software patents. However, some people who voted on it later claimed that they were misled and wanted to change their vote. So, now the discussion is starting again -- and those in favor of software patents are making the extreme claims that, without them, no innovation will occur. Apparently, some folks in the EU don't know the history of some of their own countries, including the Netherlands and Switzerland where a complete lack of patents for a period of time helped them innovate and develop more quickly.
