Using WiFi For Neighborly Niceties

from the meet-your-neighbors dept

The New York Times is writing about Neighbornode, and does a pretty good job showing how a neighborly hotspot with a bulletin board for the home page can help build neighborly connections. For all the talk about why people should never share internet connections, this shows a pretty good reason why shared WiFi can be quite a good thing. There are still security concerns (and maybe some patent issues along with questions about providers' terms of service on sharing connections). However, if they start to add more security features it could be a very useful way to set up a community network around your home that helps bring your neighbors together.
