Students Build Space-Ready Satellite Over The Internet

from the collaboration-efforts... dept

A group of 250 university students across Europe worked remotely over the internet to design and build a satellite that they hope to have launched into space next year. They worked via their own news server and weekly IRC meetings for real-time chatting. It looks like everyone got a lesson both in space technologies, as well as collaboration, though it's interesting that the two main technologies they've used (news servers and IRC) have been around much longer than the web.
