Following The Spam Trail, From Legit Companies To Spammers

There have been a few similar stories like this one in the past, but a reporter decided to respond to a few mortgage related spam emails to see if he could figure out where they went. Almost all resulted in calls from legitimate mortgage lenders, who bought the leads from "lead generation companies." All of the lenders claim that their agreements prohibit spamming, but plenty of lead generators then subcontract out to other lead generators, many of whom use spam. In other words, the mortgage lenders separate themselves from the spammers via some level of plausible deniability via layers upon layers of "lead generators."
