Sprint Follows Ma Bell

from the cash-cow's-getting-old dept

Following AT&T's move from a few months ago, it looks like Sprint is recognizing that the residential long distance market just isn't that lucrative any more. Unlike AT&T, however, at least Sprint still hung on to their wireless play. Sprint blames regulatory conditions (AT&T's preferred excuse) and technology changes. There are all sorts of reasons why traditional telephony has certain advantages to either wireless or VoIP, but if you think the telecom world isn't changing in a huge way then you haven't been paying much attention. While it may be painful to be a company in transition, it's good to see both AT&T and Sprint seem to recognize the changes happening in their markets, and make efforts to change with the times -- rather than mindlessly sending out lawyers to try to stop a changing market.
