Here Comes A GeekPAC
from the took-a-while dept
For a few years now, people have talked about the idea of GeekPAC -- a political action committee for Geeks, focused on getting politicians elected who support more technology innovation. It looks like that's exactly what's happening as some folks have formed a new political action committee called IPac to focus on intellectual property and technology issues. It will be interesting to see if it can generate enough influence to actually matter, but it's a good start. The PAC is already supporting a bunch of candidates (on both sides of the aisle) who have fought for moving intellectual property laws in the right direction. While the entire PAC system often does seem like something of a scam (or, perhaps, organized bribery), it is how the game is played these days, so it's good to see techies getting involved.
