Insider Behind Identity Theft Scam Pleads Guilty
from the going-to-jail dept
It was one of the biggest identity theft cases ever, where an insider who had access to credit reports let others access the database in exchange for about $30 per report taken. That insider, Philip Cummings, has now pleaded guilty and faces up to 15 years in jail. In his defense, he claims he had no idea how much damage would be done with the information, which makes it sound like he thought these crooks were paying him a ton of cash just too look at random credit reports for the fun of it. It seems unlikely that he didn't realize what was really going on.
