Too Old To Google? Google Accused Of Age Discrimination

from the here-they-come... dept

Funny that the lawsuits against Google seem to be coming faster and faster the closer we get to the IPO. The latest is that Google is being accused of age discrimination in the firing of a director there, apparently suggesting to him that he didn't fit with their "youthful atmosphere." As with many such claims, it's tough to tell what the real details are. The guy stands to lose a lot in the stock he didn't get, and while the filing makes some serious claims, these types of lawsuits are usually pretty difficult to prove.

  • Google will Settle

Prove it? Did you see the multi-million dollar sex discrimination settlement by Merrill Lynch? The woman who claimed bias made $900,000 a year, but - boo hoo - she felt slighted. So she sued and Merrill settled the day before it went to trial for millions.

This is a shake down, and it's going to work.

  • It's Google's timing, not plaintiffs

Did you ever think that the timing of the lawsuit pre-IPO might be one of the reasons Google fired one of its senior employees? Purge before the options vest.
