Who Says You Can't Patent Watching TV?

from the apparently,-not-Microsoft dept

theodp writes "EFF attorney Jason Schultz offers his take on Microsoft's new patent for encouraging viewers to watch television programs." Another day, another weird TV related patent from Microsoft. This one seems to focus on some sort of weird incentive program for getting people to watch more TV. Why is this patentable?

Seems like lots of prior art in the radio world. They're always giving out prizes to whoever the 9th caller or emailer is after the _X__ song is played.
