Not Quite Oddpost, But Google Acquires Photo Sharing Company

from the how-many-gigs-do-we-get? dept

Well, it's not quite as big a deal as Yahoo buying Oddpost, but Google has now bought photo-sharing company Picasa, which was already a Blogger partner. It's not a huge surprise to see Google expanding their offerings in more of the portal direction. The only question, of course, is how many spare Gmail gigs are going to be offered for people storing photos. Also, will people now complain that Google is scanning your personal photos in order to put up relevant advertising?

Google's not launched into an IM offering yet? What the heck is with that? IM is an even better fit to their existing gmail and orkut projects, that it's almost a no-brainer.

They mus tbe working on a private deal, or hackin' like crazy on a client. Please, please, may it be jabber. Google's vastly superior knowledge of actually how to scale networking means they are the few who could actually pull off a massive jabber service.
