There have been similar studies in the past, but the numbers on this one are fairly disturbing. Despite the continued annoyance most people claim concerning spam, a new study suggests that 20% of Americans admit to buying products from spam. No wonder the damn stuff keeps increasing. There are plenty of suckers out there.

what kind of survey?
The article doesn't say anything about how the survey was done, or whether there was any attempt to keep spammers from rigging it (thereby making them look more legitimate) by submitting multiple votes.

Since it was Yahoo Mail that did the survey, if they sent out the survey by email, then wouldn't it skew the results to people that tend to open spam?

When you factor in the Internet penetration rate..
When you figure that only 66% of American citizens are on the Internet, that would mean 1 in 3 net users buys things from spam. Of the other commenters, I am not the 1.
I would reckon that "spam" in the survey included opt-in programs. Heck, I have received emails advertising deals from computer companies with which I've done previous business. If I had bought something in one of those mails, would I be buying something from Spam? It ain't c1@las.
