Video Games Beat Toys For Boys
from the sign-of-the-times dept
A new study, obviously timed for E3, notes that boys in the 5 to 12-year-old range would prefer to play with video games than with physical toys. I don't think this is all that surprising. Girls still prefer toys to video games, but they do their own share of video gaming as well. More interesting, though, is that there are regional differences for video games. In the south and the west where the weather doesn't get as cold and dark, video gaming is considered a year-round hobby. In the northeast, it is more seasonal - as video games take over in the dark winter months. No real explanation is given, but I wonder if this means the kids actually go outside on the nice days when summer comes around. I know that when I lived in New York I certainly appreciated the nice days much more. Maybe kids in the south and west take nice days for granted that they're more willing to sit around playing video games instead of enjoying the beautiful outdoors.
