Personal Most Wanted Website Helps Find Accused Killer

from the who-says-the-web-isn't-useful? dept

A man who felt angry and helpless when the suspect accused of a hit-and-run accident that killed his brother didn't show up at the trial, set up a website with descriptions of the accused man. He never expected it to actually help find the guy, but at least it was an outlet. Last week, however, he received an email telling him where the man was. He forwarded it to the police who captured the guy a few hours later. Of course, despite the article's headline, this isn't entirely a "the web found my brother-in-law's killer" story. It sounds like the only reason the informant knew about the website was because the local news did a story on TV about the website. So, really, the website was only useful in getting television publicity.

The web site got the ball rolling and led to the guy's capture. That counts for something.
