Time To Reform The Patent System

from the minor-tweaks-or-major-overhaul dept

In an article that fits with our current poll question, Wired News takes a look at some of the questionable patents being issued these days (all of which have been mentioned here) and gets some suggestions on why the patent system is so screwed up. They also get some quotes from people at the USPTO who say that the system mostly works, and there's only a handful of bad patents that get approved. Of course, due to the incredibly difficult process of fighting against a bad patent, chances are the USPTO simply doesn't know about many of the bad patents they've tossed out there. The article explains pretty clearly just how difficult it is to fight back against a bad patent. Even the person from the USPTO says they support an easier process, but not much has been done to make that a reality.
