Wireless Fools...

from the gotta-be-jokes... dept

I have to admit, some of the April Fool's news stories this year have been much more clever than in past years. Perhaps it's just a sign of how ridiculous the tech industry is these days that all these stories seem just slightly plausible. Anyway, here are two wireless stories from Silicon.com that have to be April Fool's jokes. First is a plan to exempt London from a law that bans driving while yakking because "mobile phone calls in the capital are likely to be far more important than ones being made elsewhere." Meanwhile, the same writer tells us that prisoners are set to get WiFi connections via a "Con-nections" program so they can surf from their cells (yeah, right). Best quote in this story is from someone who says: "It looks like the best chance I have of getting broadband access is to go out and rob a car."

Did anyone hear the piece on NPR last night? Wireless phone number portability has turned out to be so popular that the US Postal Service is going to introduce ZIP code portability. They are calling it their "Go Postal" campaign.
