Web Copycats
from the not-new-or-surprising dept
Stories like this seem to come up every so often, as online publishers begin to realize that their content is not protected. A car enthusiast website owner discovered that someone had taken all of the content for his site (including the page about himself as the editor!) and rebranded it on their own site, where they were selling ads. While they ignored requests from the guy to take down the site, when a reporter contacted them, the site quickly changed - copying an entirely different car enthusiast website. Generally speaking, these sorts of copycat sites don't last all that long, and (if anything) end up giving more publicity to the sites they copy.
