Entertainment Industry Built By Piracy

from the do-what-I-say,-not-what-I-did... dept

An excerpt from Larry Lessig's new book Free Culture: How Big Media Uses Technology and the Law to Lock Down Culture and Control Creativity, where he details how the entertainment industry has always grown by practicing some form of "piracy". While it's clear he doesn't necessarily agree with the word in all cases, he's proving the point by accepting their definition of it ("using the creative property of others without their permission") and then showing how the entire industry was built on that basis.
