Microsoft Sets Up Alternate Web Site To Avoid MyDoom

from the how-about-that... dept

Yesterday, all the news about the MyDoom virus was focused on the fact that SCO had set up a new website after their regular one was taken offline by the denial of service attack launched by the myDoom. Of course, the later version of myDoom was set to do a similar denial of service attack on Microsoft. When I heard that SCO changed their website, I thought there was no way Microsoft could do that - but, apparently, they have. Just in case things go wrong, Microsoft is setting up an alternate website and are (clearly) making sure that everyone knows about it ahead of time.

I can see it now: bogus press releases, pretending to come from Microsoft, about how www.All-Your-Money-Are-Belong-To-Us.biz is a new Microsoft web site that will provide you with security patches once you enter your SSN and bank account number, which of course are needed to verify your identity.

and the lemmings that PAY to be watched by Onstar(tm) will gladly provide their SSN's & a bank account # in hopes of some perceived trinket of appreciation like 7cents off on the third Tuesday of EACH month
