There are lots of different companies working on different types of search technologies, but how about one that will sift through a bunch of documents and take a guess at where you are, geographically. That seems to be the goal of a company named MetaCarta - and, as you might imagine, they've got the interest of various government agencies, who like the idea of "Googling" for criminals and terrorists.

    I expect that this will have approximately the same success rate as going to a psychic. No matter how smart the system is, in most cases the information simply won't be available, or won't contain anything that ties a person to a place.
