Phisher Gets Prison Time
from the as-she-should dept
The woman behind one of the early "phisher" scams has been sentenced to 46 months in prison. This is the woman who happened to send out her phisher spam to an FBI agent working on computer crimes. It was also done very crudely - using an obviously non-official AOL email address, and pointing to a Geocities page where you were supposed to fill out all of your credit card info. If only all the phisher scammers were that easy to track down and toss in jail. These days the scams have become much more sophisticated, and it's unlikely many of the scammers will get caught.
