Case Dropped Against Student Who Created Satire Site

A week and a half ago, we wrote about a student who had his computer confiscated for creating an obviously satirical site that poked fun at one of his professors. The professor complained and the police swooped in and took the computer. However, now, looking over the evidence, someone has realized that no laws were broken, and no charges will be filed. Quick question: why did they need his computer to figure that out? All of the "evidence" was right there on the website. Now, the student has filed a lawsuit, suing the court, saying that the "seizure of his computer violated his privacy, his free speech rights and his constitutional protection from unreasonable searches and seizures." The professor in the case is claiming that he never filed a complaint - he just "went to the D.A. to try to find out who was writing those things." Who goes to the District Attorney for such things? That certainly seems like you're starting a legal action. He's also upset that this has been blown out of proportion. Of course, if he'd just left it alone, most people who are now familiar with the situation, wouldn't know about it.
