The Ever Fragile DVD

While Jack Valenti continues to claim there's no possible reason that anyone could want to backup a DVD, since he believes they're indestructible, people are quickly discovering otherwise. Many are realizing DVDs are even more fragile than CDs. Of course, the entertainment industry prefers the idea that you need to go out and replace your DVD collection every few years anyway.

    I'm sorry, but this is just common sense. I have CDs that I purchased in 1985 that look like they just came off the press. If you take care when handling them, don't let little kids touch them, and keep them away from animals, then they will surely last 20 years or more.

    What is meant by more fragile is the fact that the media for DVD and CD are made of similar materials and of the same size, while the content is far more dense. Therefore, any surface marks(which usually appears after you run it in drive for a couple of hours) in DVD usually cause some damage to the content, whereas in CD, these minor glitches can be ignored.

    DVD's ARE more fragile than CD's ... Period.
    I have a collection of movies I've babied since I bought them @ a cost of $ 250.00 and STILL, I have a small fission crack from the center of one of my favorite movies that I " may " have watched all of 5 times since I bought the collection 2 years ago.

    Screw Jack ... I'm backing them up and to hell with him , the RIAA & the MIAA !
