More Speed Camera Screwups
from the the-cameras-do-lie dept
Bob Dole writes "Traffic camera enforcement advocates are fond of saying the camera never lies. Today's London Telegraph reports otherwise. An electrician obtained copies of the photos and calculated that he had to be driving 13MPH when the camera said he was going 51. An Australian paper did some homework as well, discovering that 74% of the cameras checked were faulty at least once in 6 months. One bizarre error caused the camera to record data in German and insist everyone was driving 80KM/H. The problems go beyond individual tickets. UK ambulance officials complain that tickets they receive waste $5.4 million in taxpayer money yearly."
