Edge Pushing Video Game Maker May Have Pushed Accounting Edges

from the rules?--we-don't-need-no-stinking-rules... dept

Take-Two Interactive, known for making video games that push the edges of taste (such as Grand Theft Auto), may also have been pushing the edges of accounting laws. The SEC is getting ready to charge them with accounting violations. How long until they come out with a new game that includes random indiscriminate killing of SEC agents?

Wasn't it Al Capone that was finally caught by not paying income tax?

Not surprised. TTWO has a long history of questionable accounting practices. It's been about two or three years since their last investigation (and subsequent apology).

TTWO Not Following the Standard Script

Jeesh, TakeTwo isn't following the standard script either...they haven't blamed their customers, internet piracy, the economy, or terrorism for their mistakes. Come-on TakeTwo, I realize you aren't that big on following the pack, but at least play by the rules.

I was hoping they would start going out and suing their customers, which seems to be the latest craze.

In seriousness, I think this is actually a continuation of a previous investigation, and not anything new. The SEC found some shaky business going on at the company, and decided to look into it. They then found more evidence of shaky business practices, and decided to file an official complaint against the company. It is the same deal they got caught for last time, and they went back and restated their earnings and apologized, now the SEC is finally getting around to prosecuting the crime they already "fixed" and apologized for. Nothing to see here, move along.
