CNET Buys MP3.com

Back in July we mentioned that Vivendi Universal was desparately looking to sell of MP3.com (among other assets). Now, according to GnutellaNews, CNET has bought certain assets of MP3.com. This is a bit of a surprise, but could be a good thing. It's a bit outside of CNET's typical business lines, but not completely out of left field. Also, CNET has a history of not being evil about most of these things (they've never done pop-ups, and they don't lock up content or change URLs - and their reporting has always been some of the best in the tech world). However, it looks like CNET will be starting from scratch on this one, as the notice to subscribers says that MP3.com's servers will be wiped out, suggesting CNET just bought the domain (and possibly the subscriber list).
