Utility Computing Just A Tactic To Lock In Customers

Gartner has finally realized that all this talk about utility computing and grid computing is really just a way for IT suppliers to lock in their customers. I'm not sure why this is such a shock, as it seems like that was pretty obvious from the beginning. That's pretty much the point of any "service" offering as opposed to a "product" offering. Also, Gartner seems to think this is a bad thing, when that's not necessarily the case. There are some benefits as well. As long as the customers weigh the pros and the cons, then it's not such a big deal.
