Do People Feel More Comfortable Reporting Crime Details Via Text Messaging?
from the who-knows dept
Police in the UK continue to buy into the idea that people are more willing to report crimes via text message. Back in August we wrote about a music festival where police set up a specific crime reporting SMS account and now, police are apparently asking for witness accounts of two murders by text message. They've set up a specific number and are asking anyone with details on the crime to send in their accounts via text. They say if the plan works, they'll expand it to other crimes. It will be interesting to see if anyone is caught based on SMS-based accounts. The police believe people will be much more willing to come forward with what they saw if they can do so discreetly (though, not anonymously) via text message.

Why ?
If someone wants to anonymously give information they can send a letter from a PO Box or make a call from a pay phone.
