Monkey Brain Implant Controls Robotic Arm

Previously, we were a bit skeptical whether a monkey brain implant could really move a cursor on a computer screen. It looks like the work has been reproduced and slightly modified so that a monkey controls a robotic arm. Interestingly, this is being reported in a Public Library of Science (PLoS) journal which was just launched (and slashdotted).

Michael Crichton's Congo novel had a passage where an American scientist wondered why the Japanese were so interested in capturing a Gorilla, and wondered if Gorillas would be put to work assembling TV's in factories.
A rather outdated stereotype, too, since last I heard, TV's aren't made in Japan anymore.
