Charter Follows SBC - Resists RIAA Subpoenas
from the taking-a-stand dept
Charter Communications, a cable broadband provider, has followed in the footsteps of SBC's PacBell broadband ISP, and is refusing to hand over names to the RIAA, and has filed a lawsuit to stop the RIAA from continuing to subpoena them for information they feel they shouldn't have to cough up. They are (of course) now using this as a publicity stunt, explaining that they're the only major cable provider (a very small group) to not give in to the RIAA's demands. Pacbell doesn't count, apparently, since they're a DSL provider, and not a cable company.
