Looksmart Tries To Steal Customers From Yahoo

from the makes-sense dept

Ever since Yahoo bought Overture, people have been wondering if it would end up costing them customers. Many of Overture's customers worked with them because they weren't trying to build their own interface to the customer and, thus, weren't competing for eyeballs. Now, it seems that smaller competitor Looksmart isn't waiting for current Overture customers to come looking for them. They're specifically targeting current Overture customers with a similar service for "pay per click" search terms. Of course, to be effective, they need to have a lot of advertisers (and ones who are willing to pay top dollar). So far, Looksmart has a lot fewer, but they certainly do have that "independent" pitch, with neither Yahoo nor Google can make.
