Legally Scaring Emailers Who Pass On Gossip In The UK

It was just a few months ago in the US that the courts decided you weren't guilty of libel just for passing on an email that may have included untrue statements about someone. It looks like over in the UK, the laws are quite different. A lawyer representing a sports star that has been accused of rape is looking to go after everyone who passed on the rumor by email. This brings up the question that keeps showing up online: should you be liable for information that you, yourself, did not create - but which you passed on or hosted?
