Yahoo Receives Wrist Slap Over Changing Spam Policies

from the sorry-about-that dept

A year and a half ago, Yahoo created a bit of a stir when they suddenly announced that they had changed their marketing policies and took all of the personal information you had given them and decided that (even if you'd specifically declared otherwise) you were opting in to receive marketing messages via both email and phone - unless you went back and opted out for a second time. While lots of people complained, Yahoo pretty much ignored them. Now, they've received a slight $75,000 slap on the wrist from New York attorney general Eliot Spitzer and agreed that if you've opted out of receiving marketing from them it actually means that you've opted out of receiving marketing messages from them.
