Tracking Down A Joe Jobbing Spammer

It's been nearly a year since I first got hit with an infamous joe job where someone spoofed my email address to send out who knows how many spam messages and left me with hundreds of bounces, angry messages and out-of-office replies for 36 hours. While plenty of people suggested I track down the guy who did it, I didn't have much luck. It sounds like someone else did a much better job. Wired News has the story of one such victim who tracked the spammer down. What amazes me is that all he did was get the spammer kicked off his ISP. It seems like you could easily take the guy to court for identity theft or other fraud.

I don't understand why a guy like Marin can't be prosecuted. There seems to be a lot of documentation about his spamming activities and identity theft. How does he continue to get away with it?

Hey. If one can be sued for identity theft, just because he faked a from: tag, I'm gonna be sued by Santa AND the Easter Bunny really soon now. The amount of messages I Musta sent from santa@northpole.com (yeah, a dot-com) will probably land me some hard time.
