Online Dating Localized To The Bar Level
from the whatever-happened-to-getting-up-the-nerve... dept
One of the big things you always hear from folks who are fans of online dating services is that it sure as hell beats the bar scene, and having to get up the nerve to go talk to someone you don't know. Now, however, someone is trying to take the concept of internet dating and move it into the bar scene itself. He's selling special kiosks that would be placed around the bar or club. Users would buy a $5 card which they could swipe, giving them access. They fill out a quick little profile and can search throught all the other profiles at the bar and make requests to dance with, buy a drink for or talk to whoever they want. Of course, the process seems convoluted, because you then have to wait for that person to go to their own kiosk, see your request and respond - and then you have to log back in to get the response. Seems like it's a bit too much. In fact, I don't see why this is designed as a kiosk system at all. It makes much more sense to do it wirelessly, and let people get the alerts over their phone. In the meantime, I'm wondering, are we heading towards a day when no one ever needs to go through the process of getting up the nerve to walk up to someone and asking them to dance?
