Jailtime For Spammers
from the raising-the-stakes dept
Because there simply weren't enough anti-spam bills floating through Congress, yet another one has been released (though, it's authors hope that it will be combined with the bill most likely to pass). This one would add jailtime for the worst spammers - those who are "repeat offenders", who are spamming scams and who falsify the source of their spam or hijack other's computers to use for spamming. I have no problem with severe punishment for the worst spammers, and it certainly sounds like this bill is picking on actions that are only likely to be used for nefarious purposes. Of course, these spammers are also the most difficult ones to track down. Anyway, since it's only likely to be attached to some other piece of dreadful anti-spam legislation, it's unlikely to do much good.
